9:5 For every boot of those who trample in battle tumult and cloak rolled in blood, will be used for burning, [as] fuel for the fire. The second reason for their rejoicing is that the divine victory will inaugurate a time of peace from which the brutality and horrors of war will be banished (cf. Ps. 46:9). The thought is presented in a negative form. All the military accoutrements of those who had occupied their territory will be utterly destroyed. Most of the ordinary soldiers would be barefoot.
